Let me introduce myself, my name is Simeon Schmidt and I operate the sport fishing vessel Island Hurricane. I have been a professional sports fishing guide in the Barkley Sound area for 20 years. Over the years I have held the position of head fishing guide at several local resorts and I have gained extensive knowledge of this industry. I am Coast Guard trained and have been a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for the past 15 years. I currently live in Ucluelet and this provides a wide variety of fishing activities. The ever-consistent offshore fishery to the tyee class inshore fishing and the productive (winter) Chinook & prawn season.

As well as fishing, Ucluelet is located between the entrance of Pacific Rim National Park and Long Beach, making photo opportunities available everywhere. Every spring 20,000 gray whale migrate up and down the coast of Vancouver Island with a few deciding to take up residence. Add to that, the ever-present seals, sea lions, killer whales, black bears, and bald eagles. Nature cruises and whale watching are great ways to experience the West Coast.
