Halibut Fishing on the West
Coast
Halibut fishing on the west coast of
Vancouver Island BC, is even better than Alaskan halibut
fishing. Starting in May, huge schools starting moving in from deep water, to lie anywhere from 5
to 20 miles off of Ucluelet and Tofino BC; on the outer
banks of Canada's continental shelf.
Deep sea fishing for halibut offshore,
requires specialized techniques to catch and land these
tasty monsters. Drift fishing while vertical jigging, or use
of a spread-bar are the two most productive ways to catch
west coast halibut. These fish average 20 - 25 pounds but
halibut over 100 pounds are not uncommon.
